House of Pawns picks up where House of Royals ended, with Ian making a surprising appearance. There was so much intensity in this book. Between Alivia and Ian, between Alivia and the towns people, and between Alivia and the House.

Alivia decides that she won't leave her fate up for anyone and takes matters into her own hands. She plays a very dangerous game with Jasmine, which ultimately costs her relationship with Ian. There is definitely pain and sorrow because of certain events and situations that happened, but Alivia pulls through with the help of her House members.

I enjoyed getting to know the House members as she won over their loyalty. Each individual brought so much to the table and allowed Alivia to grow as a person and a Leader. I loved seeing her develop true and actual friendships with them. They cared for each other and were the support that was needed at times.

I certainly didn't want this book to end. I couldn't get enough of it. That's how I know that I've found a good one. One that can hook you with an amazing story line and intriguing characters. I couldn't decide who I wanted at the end; Ian - the first love that was born from a sweet friendship. Raheem - the spy that was sent by the King, but one that learns to respect her for whom she is and what she does for her loved ones. Or the King, who has suffered greatly and is willing to do anything to be reunited with his Queen.

Such a game to be played, with so much at risk. But oh how I love every minute of it!!!

I can't wait for House of Kings to release. To know how this story will end, and who will remain standing.

* I was lucky enough to receive an ARC edition of this book, in return for an honest review. *

Amazing! I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t stop! Keary Taylor keeps delivering on an exciting story line and keeps her characters fresh. House of Pawns, (book 2), House of Royals, (Book 1).

We literally pick up in this volume exactly where we left off in the first book. Alivia opens the door to a major plot twist as this, the second book begins; I’m sure we have not seen all the spirals this one story line will create…my mind is racing! She is dealing with her hatred of Jasmine and the False House, and the inevitable war they have created between them. The historic story of the Conrath family in Silent Bend and the events that occurred all those years ago have been placed in the local paper once again, fueling the animosity of the townspeople for a second time. By using kindness towards the townspeople, Alivia hopes to show them she is not to be feared as her father was.

Rath is there with her in her journey…the tension and suspense flows. We get a glimpse into Rath’s life in this book and more questions are raised about his endurance as a member of staff for the House of Conrath.

Backstories are fleshed out for some major characters, secrets are revealed, alliances are formed, and one of the two Houses in Silent Bend becomes weak. As Alivia steps into her new role as the daughter of one of the Born Royals, we get to watch her make changes in her life as well as her lifestyle, and watch the strong, intelligent woman she is becoming grow…but will it be enough to save her from the King?

New players emerge in the game, new loyalties formed; secrecy and suspicion abound with new arrivals. Rath has always looked out for Alivia; Ian has always loved her; Raheem has had her in his arms; King Cyrus thinks she may be his Queen…what will happen?

LOVING This Intense, Ingenius Protag (and Her Vampires)!

I just knew this book would be amazing after the things that happened in the first one, and I'm so happy that I was right! This book was everything I expected and more. The blurb is spot on—it promises angst and conflict, and it delivers. I will unashamedly admit I stayed up until 5 in the morning just to read it in one sitting.

And I got way too into it! (Not that there is such a thing when it comes to books.) Here’s a list of things I literally proclaimed out loud while reading:
-"I freaking love Alivia!"
-"He did NOT just say that."
-"Damn, girl."
-"Alivia is intense!"
-Various other squealing, ooh-ing, ahh-ing, aww-ing, mumbling, grimacing noises and words.

Seriously though, the thing I love most in books is emotion, and the relationship problems, the inner demons Alivia was dealing with as she struggled with changes and realizations, and the inner struggle Ian was going through really made me feel for both of them.

I also loved Alivia even more. She was just as mature and level-headed, but this time she was also intense and, sometimes, kind of ingenius. I thought Ian was being unfair to say she was a different person because I felt she was only doing what she had to… but then I started to notice some changes myself, not just in her actions but also in her thoughts. But it was written in a way that was subtle and insidious so that, by the time I noticed, I couldn’t help but agree with her, or at least understand, and I still loved her character.

A lot of the characters were interesting, well-written, and stood out in their own way though, like Luke with how brave and good he was, Fred with how understanding he was, Raheem with how accepting he was, etc. Keary Taylor does seem to have a real skill for making not just her main characters but also her side characters rounded out and unique.

There was also a lot more plot happenings. The relationship was important, but the focus this time was on Alivia making allies and readying herself for King Cyrus. Normally I’m not big on politics in my books, but this never felt like politics. It was just intriguing and kept me excited and on my toes.

This was a fantastic book in the series that had even more action, angst, emotion, intrigue, and vampires than the first!

Now in its fourth edition this text is a must for all physiotherapy students. The chapters are well laid out, and all of the information is explained in an easily understandable way. This new edition provides the most up to date information for clinical practice from paediatrics through to the elderly. Chapter six is particularly useful, it provides the reader with case studies and then works through a logical way of problem solving along with introducing the reader to specific outcome measures.

All in all a must have text!!!!

This book is a must have for respiratory learning as it is clear and concise and contains both adults and paediatric care. The clear diagrams make it easier to learn and the chapters cover core subjects for example assessments, techniques, paediatrics, ventilation and many more. Throughout the authors have made small summary physio points which will be useful when revising for a particular topic. The authors have also used flow charts and pictures to put across some of the information which is very useful for visual learners. I would very much recommend this book as it contains all of the information needed for respiratory at university and during your career.

Overall this is a good all-round, evidence based resource to use whilst studying or if newly qualified that covers all the main aspects of respiratory and cardiac physiotherapy. It is a great place to start when writing case studies in this field. This book is structured in the familiar style that we have come to know Elsevier for: a logical and clear design that is well laid out with the text presented in a variety of formats and supported with photographs, drawings and diagrams. The sections covering surgery, again provide good information for the student, particularly things like commonly used drugs and side effects, terminology and common procedures that are likely to be encountered. Finally, there are a number of handy images stored online that can be used in your presentations but perhaps this facility would have been better with a few more resources available, such as quizzes or tests to assess knowledge.

As a 1st year physiotherapy student, I've been able to use this book to understand the pathophysiology of cardiorespiratory problems as well as their clinical management. It's also well structured, beginning with the assessment of a cardiorespiratory patient and covering assessment tests and techniques and their interpretation. I also like that it has separate sections for paediatrics and adults and also has a good overview of types of surgery.

I feel that this book is not only useful to me now but will be essential when I go on placement, as a reference to clarify and build on my day-to-day learning. I would recommend this text to anyone looking for a good overall cardiorespiratory text.

About the Author
Pryor was until recently Head of Physiotherapy at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust , London - Britain's leading chest and heart hospital. She is now a research fellow there and is combining work on research with the latest in clinical practice. She was co-editor to the first two editions of this book.Prasad was a contributor to the previous edition of this book. Her specialist area of practice is with children with cystic fibrosis. Like Pryor she is working as a researcher in a centre of clinical excellence.Both authors have given papers at international meetings for both doctors and physical therapists.

A book of poetry

First I should say that if one is really interested in an in depth review of this book you should read the review by Dr. Najam Abbas. He covers the poet and his works much better than I. But for the casual reader I will say this, this is a very deep heavy poet. One has to look deep into meanings. I read over and over to get the drift, and have enjoyed most fo the poems. Why Amazon has asked me the plot, mood, pace and other points I have no idea, this is a book of poetry.

Words Robed in Wisdom

This book opens the doors on the readers to know about a tenth century Persian poet, philosopher, mystic, thinker and traveller Nasir-i Khusraw (1004-1088). The book shows glimpses of some qualities this individual had in his extra-ordinary life and takes them through the evolution of the philosophical and poetic aspects of his thoughts where words should be robed in wisdom to be weighed for the many layers and depths of meaning it can offer.
The verses selected for this publication underline that Khusraw’s poetry is about wisdom and reason and its supremacy over the soul. What makes his poetry interesting is the connections established, parallels made and analogies drawn about the world, and the ever-changing nature of human life. Schimmel offers selected verses to depict Khusraw’s treatment of different phases of the seasons of the year, the long winter’s agonies and the joys brought by the heralding of spring, of the different stages in one’s life- youth and old age.
Schimmel’s lifelong study of oriental languages and thought allows her to divulge on issues such as Khusraw’s status as a poet and an analysis of the canvass where ideas were developed, his poetic content and contribution to discuss what qualities made Khusraw’s qaseedah [eulogy] different? Whether to any extent, the great Persian poet had any influence of his Arab contemporary Al-Maari. She observes that distinct for his expressions Khusraw, sets his own trends for the Persian poetic tradition.

About the Author

Dr. S.A. Sherif is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Florida. He is editor-in-chief of the ASME Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications (2014-2019), an emeritus editor of the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, a subject editor of Solar Energy, an associate editor of the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer (2007-2011), and is on the editorial boards of 18 other thermal science journals. He is a Fellow of ASME and ASHRAE, an Associate Fellow of AIAA, a member of Commission B-1 of the International Institute of Refrigeration, and a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy. He has over 300 refereed publications, 21 book chapters, 100 technical reports, and two US patents.

D. Yogi Goswami, Ph.D, PE is a distinguished university professor and director of the Clean Energy Research Center at the University of South Florida. He is the editor-in-chief of the Solar Energy Journal. He has published as an author or editor 16 books, 14 book chapters, and more than 300 refereed technical papers. He also holds 18 patents, and has received more than 50 awards and certificates from major engineering and scientific societies for his work in renewable energy. Dr. Goswami is a Fellow of ASME, AAES, ASES, ASHRAE and the National Academy of Inventors. He is a member of the Pan American Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Elias Stefanakos�is professor of electrical engineering and director of the Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) at the University of South Florida (USF) located in Tampa, Florida, USA. He is editor–in–chief of the Journal of Power and Energy Engineering (JPEE) and co-editor-USA of the Journal of Asian Electric Vehicles. He has published over 200 research papers in refereed journals and international conferences in the areas of materials, renewable energy sources and systems, hydrogen and fuel cells, and electric and hybrid vehicles. He has been a consultant for a number of companies and international organizations.

Dr. Aldo Steinfeld is professor at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering of ETH Zurich. He further directs the Solar Technology Laboratory of the Paul Scherrer Institute. He has authored over 250 refereed papers and served as editor-in-chief of the ASME Journal of Solar Energy Engineering. His contributions to science and education have been recognized with the ASME Calvin W. Rice Award (2006), the John I. Yellott Award (2008), the European Research Council Advanced Grant (2012), the ISES Farrington Daniels Award (2013), and the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award (2013). He is member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences.

For some time now I have been looking for a book to assist my students in learning the Metric System; however, I have found most of the texts to be overly technical in terminology or lacking the direct approach in this book. Good work :)

SI (United States) measuring system

Breaks SI system into basic concepts (length, area, volume, mass, etc.) for easier understanding. Very helpful for those who grew up using inch-pound units by default and want to learn and use the SI system correctly.
Indexed, easy to look up and grasp concepts. Good visuals (length, area, volume, mass, temperature, etc.) Since SI is the only legal US measuring system since 1866 and is reinforced by the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988, since all federal agencies are mandated to use SI units since October 1992 and because K-12 and university teachers are expected to teach to standards - this is the book to keep close at hand.
