A Five Star rating is the highest Value I could use.

The depth of research this author has done on these cycles is truly inspiring. To 'see' and collate the presented information, with such clarity into a readable and logical step by step process is humbling.

I am heavily involved in Market cycles being a WD Gann follower (for many years now) and would highly recommend this book to any similar likeminded persons.
I am also very "careful" what information I read/spend my hard earned cash on regarding these topics. There are many 'wannabees' in this market plus many that 'wanna help you remove any of your cash that they feel is theirs' with market information that has not been researched correctly with what that author originally spoke/wrote on. Nor do I give financial advice or recommendations on this topic (for the above reasons) but this book is the exception.

Mr PJ Anderson has done his background work. He most assuredly is not in the above wannabee class. His data is continually backed up with facts that can be personally verified and lays out our whole Current financial setup Worldwide and "why is it so?".
If you ever had any doubts about our various countries markets being inter related, read this Book.

a set of amazing stories, builds a picture of 'how things really ...

At some points, without an adequate background in this subject, I struggled. But that was of no consequence; the material is fascinating and the history, a set of amazing stories, builds a picture of 'how things really are' in the material world. I am extremely grateful the author made the effort to put this information into print.

However, some people will dismiss its conclusions, I'm on the author's side here but can offer nothing to change such views. So maybe it comes down to it being a bet as to who is right. Overall, economists of nearly every hue have failed to impress me, but those that do are referenced in this book - and they are kept in the shadows thanks to the boundaries of a selective educational system. So all this enigmatic talk may serve to indicate how deep the material actually goes, or can go for a receptive mind. As simple history it's a revelation. I had no idea the world has consistently been so corrupt!

Overall this is one of a few books I would want the people I love to know and understand, even at a basic level.

The best book on real estate and investing I have ever read. It shows how he real estate cycle works, is backed up with amazing research and predictions that prove incredible accurate. Also gives a fascinating insight into how bank's operate and how they virtually make money out of thin air. If you are serious about investing you must read this life-changing book.

About the Author

Dr. Ginger Levin is a Senior Consultant and Educator in project management. Her specialty areas are portfolio management, program management, the Project Management Office, metrics, and maturity assessments. She is certified as a PMP, PgMP and as an OPM3 Certified Professional. She was the second person in the world to receive the PgMP. As an OPM3 Certified Professional, she has conducted over 25 maturity assessments using the OPM3 Product Suite tool.

Dr. Levin is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where she teaches in its M.S. in Project Management Program, for SKEMA (formerly Esc Lille) University, France, and RMIT in Melbourne, Australia in their doctoral programs in project management. In consulting, she has served as Project Manager in numerous efforts for Fortune 500 and public sector clients, including Genentech, Cargill, Abbott Vascular, UPS, Citibank, the Food and Drug Administration, General Electric, SAP, EADS, John Deere, Schreiber Foods, TRW, New York City Transit Authority, the U.S. Joint Forces Command, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. From a professor's point of view

Background: I've used this text for 5 years now, beginning with the 7th Ed, and now probably moving to the 9th. Before my teaching career I was a circuit designer for HP for about 12 years. I teach at a community college, and we use this text because most of the universities to which my students transfer use it. I've never had a student complain about this text, either personally or in a student evaluation.

The good:
I think the text is well-written, the explanations are clear and concise and at exactly the level that sophomore EE/ECE students need. The examples are well-chosen and sufficient in number to effectively present the fundamental concepts.

What could be improved:
1. More general problems are needed that require the student to solve the circuits using generic components (R, L, C) instead of giving numeric values for all components. The purely numeric approach leads to a "sea of numbers" plug-and-chug solution that has little meaning to the student and even less value in terms of understanding circuit behaviour. Students need to get used to working their solutions into the standard algebraic forms that provide insight into the behaviour of the circut. (I have designed my labs to make up for this.)

2. The order of the topics assumes the student is taking their first course in differential equations concurrently, and so postpones the introduction of the LaPlace transform until near the end of the semester. Too much time is spent solving 1st and 2nd order linear, constant coefficient ODEs by methods engineers will never use again. This makes LaPlace methods look like an afterthought, when in fact it is how EEs actually work in the field.

All in all, I view this book as a very positive text, and will probably continue to use it. It does a good job of demonstrating the thinking required of an engineer, and helping the persistent student to develope it.

To the struggling student using this text:
More than likely your problems are with prerequite concepts. All circuits texts appropriate for this level assume you are good at algebra, trig, and calculus (no, I mean GOOD at them), and that you have completed 2 semesters of calculus-based physics. This is requred to learn the topic of circuit analysis at the level expected of you.

Also, you should not expect to learn the concepts in any engineering, physics, or upper level math class by simply mimicing examples. You must learn to generalize the fundamental concepts so that you can apply them in ways you haven't seen in an example. If you can't learn that, then you may want to consider a change in either attitude or major. Engineers are not "paid the big bucks" to solve problems that have already been solved before. You must develope the ability to think generally, and this entails a lot of time and effort. Unless you are a genius, there is some frustration inherent in the process. It is at these times that "the book sucks, the professor sucks, so I guess I'll go write a review on Amazon."

Your time would be more profitably spent making proper use of the examples in the book (and in your class notes). Before beginning your homework problems try working through all the examples without referring to the solution. Don't just read them, work them out on paper. Keep working the examples until you understand them, only then are you ready to begin the homework set. You might think you don't have time for this, but it will reduce your "head-banging time" later on. The examples are not intended to be templates into which you can substitute similar values from each assigned problem in order to produce an answer. That would be the opposite of helpful.

This book seems to me to be poorly written and put together. It does not prepare the student well enough even to accomplish the assessment problems and final chapter problems - very nebulous as to what exactly it is asking on some of those. Some of the problems and exercises will get you turning pages back and forth as they reference another problem/figure from a few pages before.

Our professor and many classmates have, in just a few chapters early in the quarter, found a myriad of errors, wrong answers in the back, and misprints - a sign of poor quality check and assurance.

I came across the 9th edition and for 3 hours compared the first 9 chapters against this 10th newest edition, page by page (seriously), and found that the text content, the examples, the assessment problems (spread throughout the chapters), a few chapter articles (the Practice Perspectives - each chapter has one), and the summaries, are exactly the same, word-for-word, number-by-number, as in "there's nothing different"! I didn't check the problems at the end of each chapter as our professor had already told us they were simply shuffled and maybe changed some of the numbers a bit.

To me, Electric Circuits 10th Edition is nothing more than a fancy and very expensive reprint of the 9th edition (check the reviews on the 9th edition for more).

Get a different book!

I just finished a 1st semester circuits course using this textbook. The other reviews are spot on. In reading the reviews, I had a back up plan and purchased "Fundamentals of Electric Circuits" (FEC) as a backup textbook. Well, that book became my primary. You may not truly realize what this book (Nilsson) is missing until you read another textbook. I often felt like I was missing information to adequately comprehend a topic or to solve problems. Then I would read FEC and those missing pieces were filled in, with better circuit examples to learn from. As other reviewers mentioned, in Nilsson I often found myself reading ahead to get information to solve problems earlier in the book. In addition, there is a huge disconnect between the chapter examples and the homework problems. I understand homework problems should be challenging, require one to think out of the box, not just plug-and-chug, but this is a little too much in this book. In addition, not EVERY odd# problem has an answer (no even ones either). Therefore, I often found myself simulating circuits to get answers (not necessarily a bad thing). And I would not waste your money on the supplementary texts (Study guide, Multisim guide, etc). They are just about worthless.

Conclusion: Use this book if you have to (i.e. you have to do the homework problems and turn them in), but if you have the means, get a second book to study from, do problems from. Then sell this book back when you are done with it and keep the other book.

Excellent Book on Waste Management...Don't Be Scared By The Book's Size!

This is a really good book that I had to purchase for my graduate level Haz. and Waste Management class. Each chapter provides detailed info, covering everything from solidification and stabilization to proper waste management protocols and corrective action procedures for disposing of waste. You'll also find info about biological and chemical reactions, as well as land disposal and recycling. In other words, it covers the gamut.

Initially, I thought that the book would be boring, but I really learned a great deal from it. We had to do select homework problems from each chapter (some of which our teacher required a lot of detailed answers for), which weren't that bad. The only problem that I had was a lack of any kind of hint for the questions at the end of the chapter. Most of the answers you can find by reading certain chapters, but if you are unsure of where to find that info, you're out of luck if your teacher doesn't correct your papers. Overall, this book comes highly recommended for learning the finer details of waste management!

A plug for ERM - pure and simple!

The titlle of the book implies that it has much to do with hazardous waste management, although in reality, it is more about remediation or site cleanup. Classic hazardous waste management deals with the MANAGEMENT of hazardous wastes within an industrial setting and how NOT to let it get into the media in the first place. In this regard, while the authors had the right intention, they fell short. For example, the chapter on environmental auditing was very weak and not given much attention, which is really at the heart of hazardous waste management. In addition, a troubling issue that took away from the book was the blatent self-promotion of ERM in the book, beginning with the foreward by Paul Woodruf, ERM's CEO, and the profuse listing of ERM self credits from editing to graphics. Who really authored the book, the authors listed, or ERM?

While Arthur Matthews is the REAL DEAL, his edited book is not

I read the original in 1969 of what Arthur Matthews wrote about his own experiences in those sections of "The Wall of Light" that pertain to him.

I can tell you emphatically -- absolutely -- that there were no references to Jesus in the original. Whomever has inserted those passages in this book is grossly dishonest. I know that Matthews was a deeply spiritual man who did not believe in conventional religions. Period. I know this for a fact.

Instead, Matthews was taken to a place on Venus where he said he met with a group called "The Council of Nine." This council could tell whether he was telling the truth. He was asked to describe the earth sciences as he understood them. He described biology, chemistry, all of the physical sciences as he knew them. When he described physics, the council objected that he was untruthful. Matthews said this was the earth's understanding. This council told him this was completely wrong, and was vociferous in its objection to its basic principles.

As for the spiritual/religious stuff, the council told him that they were going to give him the secret to life at the end of his several meetings with them. The secret was love. Matthews noted in the original I read that this comported with the message of many of the earth religions. That was the extent of any reference to Jesus. This book makes Matthews sound like a born-again Christian, which he was decidedly NOT.

Further, the meetings with the Venusians have been dumbed down in this book. The original text was far more exciting. For example, Matthews described his initial meeting with a Venusian couple. The man was about 650+ years and the woman about 550+ years old. He extolled their beauty and serenity. They grilled him during meetings over two years about highly detailed aspects of Tesla's work before ever going any further with him. Matthews made a point that there was no way anyone could have known about these highly technical aspects of Tesla's work, because Tesla had not discussed them with anyone but Matthews in letters between the two. Those letters were in Matthews' possession when Tesla died and not the US government, who declared all of Tesla's private papers 'classified' within days of his death. The US government didn't know about Tesla's special relationship with Matthews at the time. How do I know this? Matthews tried to contact the US government to show them highly technical aspects of Tesla's work during the 50s. The US govt. blew Matthews off as a Canadian kook. Matthews also contacted the Canadian government, who thought the same thing. So Matthews did the next logical step: he gave the information to the Russians.

As I wrote at the beginning of this review, I read this document in 1969. It made such an impression on me that I have never forgotten its contents. I can still see myself reading the original. I can still feel how I felt when I read it. I was shocked, actually, to see parts of it in "The Wall of Light," 37 years later.

BTW, I cant review the 'Tesla-written' parts of this book. I have no way of knowing if they've been altered. The Matthews drawings appear somewhat genuine. The book is worth it for the Tesla part. Read the Matthews account with a jaundiced eye, and be suspect about about the sentimental parts of it. Matthews was not a sentimentalist.

I am giving three stars to what should be a five-star read because of the grossly inaccurate editing of Matthews writings in the book, obviously done after he died.

Not worth reading!

It is obvious that Matthews was a fan of Tesla. The first part of the book is a rather boring account of Tesla's life, in his "own" words. The second part, The Wall of Light is about the alleged encounters of Matthews with Venusians and their spacecraft. In the first pages I was already growing suspicious about his descriptions and the way he wrote his accounts. For somebody who had repeatedly contact with the spacecraft, his drawings and description is rather superficial. Then, the Venusians show him a time machine that takes him 2000 years in the future where he learns that a third world war has destroyed most of the world between 1971 and 1978. Oh well... When he described the trees, lakes and buildings on Venus and cities and canals on Mars, he didn't envision that by now we have photographed these rather desolate planets in detail. The book has all the earmarks of wishful thinking. Only good if you are in for a science fiction novel.
