Review of Cardenosa's "Breast Imaging Companion"

As a radiology resident in a very busy county hospital, I have all that I can do to keep up with the workload, much less find time for academic reading. Prior to the 1999 in-service examination, I read the ACR syllabus and Cardenosa's "Breast Imaging Companion."
The combination of these two texts served me well, as I scored in the 100th percentile on the breast imaging section. Cardenosa's book is concise, filled with both "classic" and atypical images. It is a rapid read, while maintaining a reasonably comprehensive level of dialogue.
I would reccomend it to anyone learning mammography for the first time and, furthermore, I would recommend that you keep it nearby, as you will refer to it frequently for troubleshooting in this difficult field.

This book is undeniably the first book any radiology resident should get to learn breast imaging. I can't believe it only has one review for an old edition. It is great as a review and a reference while reading cases. Great images, discusses birads and mqsa, and very thorough pathology coverage. It has some drawbacks. It doesn't cover MRI well. It doesn't cover management very well either. The author's other book, clinical breast imaging covers the management much better.

Not Practical for Studying

This textbook is required for one of my classes, it is horrible.
It is literally pages and pages of bullet points and facts there are no paragraphs sectioned off very well or main points. I don't even bother reading it any more because there is no way I would be able to memorize anything. If you had to write a paper on something it has facts etc.
There are pictures of the breast and that's about as useful as it gets. Buy used if you must buy it.
