Roberts Liardon makes an outstanding job writing this book. He mentions some things that perhaps other historians do not find easy to say. I have not finished reading the book yet but it seems to me that the style and order Liardon has arranged for his work is excelent.

A Good Book To Use For Devotions

Ever thought about how John and Charles Wesley made it to America? Did you even know they had come? This book gives brief biographies of many spiritual leaders. You will enjoy reading both the familiar stories and the not so familiar facts and details of their lives.

Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, and Dwight L. Moody are just a few of the more then eleven lives detailed in this book. As the author takes you on their journeys you get a better understanding of the time in which they lived and the work they accomplished. You will see God's hand in the details of their lives and be moved to serve Him better.

This book is an easy read and great for devotions. You can divide the chapters or just study one person a day or week. A great read for both men and women as you see how the Lord can work in anyone's life no matter the circumstances. I enjoyed the stories of these great servants of the Lord and am sure you will too.

North Dakota Nice

This is a great read.
I too am a transplant to this frozen world.
The people here are amazing in their honesty and work ethic.
I will never leave... it is way to nice to depart and then suffer the plagues of the rest of the country.
This book makes you laugh, almost to tears.
The truth is subtle. Those who live here have had those
"Fargo" moments. These joys of spontaneous goodness must be experienced personally to be believed.

This book is a great read: Both for those who live in the area and for those who wonder why we do. The book consists of short, contained chapters that make it easy to pick up and read in bits and pieces....if you can put it down after you start reading, of course. Marc de Celle writes with humor, intelligence, and heart. Buy it for yourself and buy it for friends and family. You will thoroughly enjoy it.

About the Author

Gary Paul Green is a professor in the Department of Community & Environmental Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a community development specialist in the Center for Community & Economic Development at the University of Wisconsin-Extension. Green’s teaching and research interests are primarily in the areas of community and economic development. In addition to his work in the U.S., he has been involved in community and economic development research and teaching in China, New Zealand, South Korea, Uganda, and Ukraine.

Anna L. Haines, Ph.D. is a professor in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and a land use and community development specialist with the University of Wisconsin-Extension. Haines received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Her research and teaching focuses on planning and community development from a natural resources or environmental perspective. Her research has focused on evaluating community planning and zoning in terms of smart growth and sustainability, land parcelization, and local food systems. Her extension work has focused on comprehensive planning and planning implementation tools and techniques, sustainable communities, and property rights issues.

A good overview.

Good for what it is

This book is presents an asset-based approach to community development and the organizing principle is the various forms of capital, i.e. social, political, financial, human, etc. I would have given the text five stars if there had been some space devoted to some of the theoretical aspects of community development- something to provide a framework for evaluating the application of the various forms of capital.
