About the Author
Carlene Harrison, EdD, CMA (AAMA)
Carlene Harrison is Dean of the School of Allied Health at Hodges University and is also
Program Director for the Master of Health Services Administration and Graduate Certificate
in Health Informatics. She has been a member of the faculty at Hodges University since 1992,
but came on board full time in 2000, serving first as Chair of the Medical Assisting Program.
As Dean of the School of Allied Health, she has overall responsibility for the following
degree programs: Health Services Administration, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Assisting,
Health Information Management, and Physical Therapist Assistant. Her doctorate is from
Argosy University. Her dissertation research looked at improvement in critical thinking in
adult learners.
Before becoming a full-time educator, Dr. Harrison worked for over 20 years in the health
care field as an administrator. Employed mostly in the outpatient setting, she has worked in
the for-profit, not-for-profit, and public health sectors.

Karen Judson, BS
Karen Judson taught biology laboratories at Black Hills University in Spearfish, South
Dakota; high school sciences in Idaho; and grades one and three in Washington state. She is
also a former laboratory and X-ray technician and completed two years of nurse’s training
while completing a degree in biology.
Judson has worked as a science writer since 1983. She has written relationship, family, and
psychology articles for a variety of magazines, including a series of high school classroom
magazines, making a total of 500 articles published. Judson writes science and relationship
books for teenagers (Enslow and Marshall Cavendish publishers). Her book for teens, Sports &
Money: It’s a Sell Out, made the New York City Public Library’s list of best books for teens in
1995. Her book for teens, Genetic Engineering, was chosen by the National Science Teachers’
Association as one of the best science books for children in 2001 and was featured on the
NSTA Web site.

Recommneded medical legal text

Its a (college, JC) text book. Very well organized and easy to read with all current applicable medical laws and to a lesser degree ethics. I would recommend this book to anyone in the earlier levels of medical 'legal' studies.

Worst Textbook As a College Student

Worst textbook in all of my undergraduate studies. Authors assert that Jean Piaget is a value theorist but the truth is Jean Piaget is a cognitive theorist in child development. They apply his cognitive theory to value theory, which is more indicative of Lawrence Kohlberg and they fail to mention Gilligan. The book is riddled with misinformation. Authors assert that Doctors of Osteopathy are focused on the musculoskeletal system, this would be the chiropractor not the D.O. In fact the D.O. was a medical reform movement because treatments killed people more than the cause and so the founder A.T. Still establishes the four tenets of osteopathy, which does not focus on musculoskeletal system. This is a health care law textbook but they fail to mention how healthcare professionals are licensed, they only focus on physician licensing, nothing about PA, nurses or dieticians. This should be renamed a medical law book. I have had a medical ethics class and this textbook mentions ethics that I have never even heard of as a healthcare profession. The authors also assert that medical schools require a four year degree while many do not. The reader will have to unlearn their incorrect facts and misinformation to later learn it the correct way.

Basil Davidson has re-created the story of the slave trade, highlighted by excerpts from the documents of historian, explorers, and other annalists of the period. This rich and thorough account, by the author of the prizewinning Lost Cities Of Africa, was originally published in 1961 under the title of Black Mother.

suspenceful

I just finished reading this and had to write this review on this book. This book was even more suspenseful than the first one. I knew some of the things had to happen in this book. I knew Trevor would find her and it was not going to be good. I loved her courage. I bought this after I finished reading the first book. At first I wasn't going to and pick a book I already had but as. I read the last sentence I didn't waste anytime a couple minutes later I was reading this book because I had to find out how the story ends and what would happen to Trevor. I like this book a little better than the first. If you got the first story about Lily then spend the money and get this one also. I'm glad I did or I would be thinking for a long time what happened.

Absolutely nothing inappropriate

This review is actually for this book and its predecessor, He Loves Me Not. The author doesn't have a great writing style and the characters lack dimension but she does have a really good idea of how difficult it can be to escape from an abusive relationship; I know because it took me 18 years to get out of mine. The conflicting emotions that the heroine experiences are true to life. People who have never been victims of abuse often find it difficult to understand what makes it so hard to leave and once you do leave, why it's so hard to not go back and the author manages to capture, in a small way, those particular emotional conflicts. The heroine, in my opinion had things much too easy. She doesn't suffer from financial difficulties which makes her escape much simpler. Most abuse victims don't have the luxury of their own vehicle or a nice fat $100k bank account to live on, nor the luxury of being able to sell a deceased parent's home to add to that bank account. I had to laugh a little when Lily/Kate effortlessly drove away from Reno with no fear of running out of gas money, forked out money to rent a home, walked into a Doctor's Office and paid cash for her appointments and casually stopped by Wal-Mart to purchase a brand new crib and baby clothes...if only it was really that easy! They're not terrible books, but they're not great either. They're easy reads, and it only took me a few hours to get through each of them, although I never had a problem putting either of them down. I'll probably read more from this author because her books are inexpensive and have absolutely no profanity or inappropriate sexual passages and that is refreshing. These would probably be good books for older teenage girls to read to teach them to pay attention to the red flags they will most certainly see when they are dating.

This autobiography by the youngest son of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller is also a history of 20th-century America and its influence in the world order. As David Rockefeller traces his own life (he was born in 1915) with references to the personal and business dealings of his father and grandfather, this history unfolds through his eyes. Chapters on his childhood, teenage years, and relationships with his parents provide insight into his character development and lifestyle. But when he discusses his years at Harvard, the London School of Economics, and the University of Chicago, where he earned his Ph.D. in economics, Rockefeller tells of his meetings with top professors and economists such as Keynes and Schumpeter, commenting on their theories. The account of his travel experience in Nazi Germany during the mid-1930s is compelling. His marriage to Peggy, his time as an intelligence officer in World War II, and his relationships with his brothers in family conflicts, as well as his work with Chase Bank, Rockefeller Center, OPEC, and the Middle East, Latin America, and the World Trade Center, are all discussed in detail. An inveterate networker among policymakers, intellectuals, and corporate leaders, he seems to have been driven by an almost na�ve faith in noblesse oblige, and there's something refreshingly nineteenth-century about this entertaining memoir as well. Rockefeller's style is restrained and self-deprecating; the account of his attempts to modernize and globalize Chase makes for excellent business history, and his sketch of his complicated relationship with his brothers is especially convincing. What may be most striking, however, is Rockefeller's resolute internationalism and his commitment to institutions like the U.N.—a healthy reminder that there was a time when the Republican Party did not see "multilateralism" as a dirty word.

"The henhouse is safe" assures the Fox

Mr Rockefeller writes about the Bilderbergs (p. 410), at the "disppointment" of the "conspiracy-mongers" is just an "intensely interesting annual discussion group." Really? Then how come I'm never invited? What's all the secrecy about?

To give you an idea of why all the secrecy, here's an excerpt from a 1991 issue of the Hilaire duBerrier Report (also reported elsewhere in the French press):

"[Rockefeller] told his listeners: 'We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years....It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during these years....The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers ... is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in the past centuries.'"

In "Tragedy and Hope" written By Bill Clinton's professor at Georgetown, Carroll Quigley (p. 950) writes:

"There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international Anglophile network which operates, to some extent, in the way the radical Right believes the Communists act. In fact, this network, which we may identify as the Round Table Group has no aversion to cooperating with the Communists, of any other groups, and frequently does so. I know of the operations of this network because I have studied it for twenty years and was permitted for two years, in the early 1960's, to examine its papers and secret records. I have no aversion to it...but in general my chief difference of opinion is that it wishes to remain unknown, and I believe its role in history is significant enough to be known."

Now why would the "Round Table Group" want to cooperate with the communists? James Kunen, in his "Strawberry Statement: Notes of a College Revolutionary," gives one reason:

"In the evening, I went up to the U. to check out a strategy meeting. A kid was giving a report on the SDS [Students for a Democratic Society] convention. He said that ... at the convention, men from Business International Round Tables, the meeting sponsored by Business International for their client groups and heads of government, tried to buy up a few radicals. These men are the world's leading industrialists and they convene to decide how our lives are going to go. These are the guys who wrote the Alliance for Progress. They are the left wing of the ruling class. They offered to finance our demonstrations in Chicago. We were also offered ESSO (Rockefeller) money. They want us to make a lot of radical commotion so they can look more in the center as they move to the left."

Is this not the reason why most people think George Bush is conservative? Because the liberal hates Bush?

Mr. Rockefeller on p. 405 claims that the "conspiracy theorists" fail to see the "benefit of our international role over the past half century." And what benefits are these? Quigley gives the answer in his book:

"The powers of financial capitalism had a far-reaching plan, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole."

Now how'd those silly kook populists miss to see the benefit in having a worldwide system of financial control vested in a few plutocrats?

Better editing needed

I bought this book to experience the life of David Rockefeller and what it is like to live a life of incredible wealth. In that respect, I did enjoy this book. For example, the Rockefeller kids did not attend an exclusive private grade school. Obviously, his life was still very different from most Americans filled with travel and meeting very famous, intelligent people.
After a very interesting educational career and time served in WWII, Rockefeller works initially as an assistant to the Mayor of NY but eventually begins a long career with Chase Manhattan Bank ending as the Chairman. Here, the book really bogged down. Even though he was raised in a life much different than most Americans, his Chase career was marked by a rivalry with a senior loan officer in a battle for the top spot at the bank. Rockefeller spent this part of the book describing the battle in depth without trying to be critical. Frankly, it was more information than was needed and not really becoming. After his ascension to the top spot, the book describes in detail, probably too much detail, his growth of the bank, his relationships with world leaders, and the problems at the bank that almost cost him his job. And possibly it should have.
The book ends with Rockefeller reflecting on his philanthropic activities and the ultimate dispostion of the Rockefeller Center. I found this section quite interesting.
Overall, I casually enjoyed this book and would recommend it. But it is real time commitment to read and may be considered too boring for many readers. If you are buying this book because you enjoy business biographies, I would not recommend the book as there is no compelling story to tell from a business perspective. It's just a story of a wonderful life from a very wealthy individual who is able to travel in very high circles.

Must-Have for modern software developer who cares for his project and his code

I am a pretty experienced developer (8-9 years mostly Java and other JVM-languages) who thought was pretty familiar with TDD, BDD and code design concepts. Unfortunately i was totally wrong ! The book really allowed me to open my eyes and see how much i was missing in these topics. It allowed me to finally understand the blurry line between TDD and BDD, write better tests, design in a more loose-coupled way and finally run-away from unit-tests (class/method-level unit tests) obsession and focus on features-testing as the right level of granularity for tests. The book (i haven't reached the last page yet) really reminds me Growing Object-Oriented Software, Guided by Tests book but i find it way more easy to read (written by non-native speaker), with complex concepts expressed clearly (always with an example ! ) and with a slightly different test-scope: building "logic/business" layer using BDD (my 2 favorite chapters), then REST API (with business layer being test double/stubbed) and finally UI all developed using test-first approach. That kind of approach seems to match with "Integration Tests Are a Scam" by J.B. Rainsberger.

Although I am not js programmer and all examples and tools used in the book are javascript based, I didn't have any problem to read/use them (the author even drives you on installing all tools and shares his best practices on using them) so the book is a really good choice for non-javascript developers who would like to make a deep dive into modern way of building software using tests.
I only wish the book was not a softcover...

Great resource on BDD in Javascript.

Coming from a background in TDD/BDD in other languages this is a welcome tome of knowledge dealing with getting up to speed in Javascript with BDD.

A few chapters introducing the general concepts of BDD and TDD, then into some concrete examples using Mocha and other well known javascript testing frameworks.

The book continues to expand on many topics including UI testing with webdriver and some strategies on dealing with intergration tests.

I recommend this book as a solid resource for BDD in Javascript, especially if you have had no exposure to BDD in other languages.

For both novices and advanced developers. The best BDD book and the best writer.

Enrique Amodeo has been so far one of the best tech writers I have found. Neither BDD or TDD was familiar to me, yet in the first chapters of the book I started to understand a lot, even to the point of being myself able to explain to others who also want to learn BDD and have some experience with TDD.
This book is a must have if you want to become a better javascript developer. So far my experience has been great, but this doesn't mean that I haven't had my challenges. This is not easy, so keep the good spirits up and trust Amodeo, he is simply the best.

This is a reprint of the enormously popular 1957 edition of Copland's guide to music. There is no new text by Copland, only a new introduction by composer William Schuman, which is more an encomium to the "Dean of American Music." In large measure, the book owes its success to its simple, jargon-free language and engaging style. One wishes, though, that Copland might have added an assessment of the musical scene of the past 30 years. The bibliography has not been updated and is thus virtually useless, with the most recent entry 1955. Nonetheless, the book remains an excellent guide for the novice. About the Author
Aaron Copland’s well-known and highly regarded compositions, performed and recorded extensively throughout the world, include the Pulitzer Prize–winning ballet Appalachian Spring, as well as Billy the Kid, Rodeo, Lincoln Portrait, and the film scores of Our Town and The Heiress. On being awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 1986, Copland was praised for his “uniquely American music that reflects the very soul and experience of our people.” During his career, Copland taught composition at Harvard and the Berkshire Music Center, lectured all over the United States, and wrote Our New Music and Music and Imagination. He died in 1990.

A fun, informative treatise on music from a great American composer

Aaron Copeland is, of course, one of the greatest American composers. His input about music is scholarly and welcome. He does not lose a layman in technical jargon, music notation, or advanced music theory. For that I am grateful. The book introduces music and its structures in a steady progression. In the end I became lost. But I hung in there until the end. I think the subject really does need a format like Bernstein's Young People's Concerts where you hear a sample of the items they are discussing. But, for a book, this one is pretty good. I especially like the section
where he discusses composition using the varied characteristics of the orchestra.

Great advice from a great composer

I am surprised it took me so long to discover this book, as it is so well written and so useful for better understanding the ways to enjoy concert music. I really did not know Copland was so articulate and good at writing. I can perceive a successful effort on his part in order to clearly explain something as abstract as music.

This is not a book that will provide the reader with all that is needed to completely own this art form. However, it is a book that should be read by anyone that intends to grasp more enjoyment out of serious concert music. His point of view on many aspects of the music appreciation practice are very valuable. Throughout his discussion, he manages to present many useful tips that help the reader to better concentrate on what is important on any piece.

In his book, Copland mentions many examples of pieces to make his point, and I guess one has to be familiar with those works in order to get it. However, here and there I found mentions of examples for which I am not familiar with, and even then, I could very well understand what he was trying to say.

He does not assume that the reader is very knowledgeable about music and at the same time, he does not write as if the reader was stupid, as some of the books from the series “…For Dummies” series do.

I highly recommend this book to better learn about appreciating music from the humble words of a great composer who is caring enough to make his reading enjoyable.

Wonderful for Those Who Don't Know Much About Music, and Want to Learn

This is a TERRIFIC book about music for music laypeople -- those of us who love music but don't know much about it, who want to learn more in order to enjoy it more. There is lots and lots written about music history, what composer wrote when and who influenced whom. But there isn't that much that I have found about the music itself which really helps me understand what is going on in a particular piece.

Copland does this, by taking the reader through the building blocks of music. He starts with what he calls the four elements: rhythm, melody, harmony and tone color, Then he proceeds to musical texture, to musical structure, and then to five fundamental forms: sectional, variational, fugal, sonata, and free. After this, he concludes with brief surveys of opera, film music, and what was then contemporary serious music. Each chapter is followed with a list of suggested pieces of music to listen to.

The book's advanced age has remarkably little impact on its usefulness, except for the fact that the "listening lists" refer to old recordings. The book first appeared in 1939 and was revised in 1957; the Signet edition that I read has a short chapter on music since Copland. Copland was a teacher of music as well as a composer, and it shows -- I would love to take a class for which this was the text.

This book does, however, demand lots of effort, and lots of listening, at least for us "I don't know much about music, but I know what I like" types. What Copland wants the listener to do is go beyond pure sensuous enjoyment and use his or her brain to follow the music as it unfolds -- to listen, not just hear. Doing this requires listening again and again to pieces he discusses.

Like some other reviewers, I wish very much that some kind person would put out a CD (or set up a website) with the specific passages Copland cites, as well as his broader listening list. Even without this, however, I have learned a great deal from this book. I expect to learn more, since I will be reading again and again as I listen.

I doubt that the book would be nearly so useful to people who already know a lot about how music works, but for the groundlings, Copland's book is masterful

About the Author
Stephen E. Strom received his PhD in astronomy from Harvard University in 1964. He has held appointments at Harvard, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, and the University of Massachusetts. He has served as associate director for science at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson for nine years, retiring in 2007. His photography complements poems and essays in three books published by University of Arizona Press. Strom’s photographic work has been exhibited widely in the United States and internationally, and is held in several permanent collections, including those at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson and at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Bradford A. Smith has served as a professor of planetary sciences and astronomy at the University of Arizona, a research astronomer at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, and visiting associate professor in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at the California Institute of Technology. He has participated in a number of American and international space missions, including Mars Mariners 6, 7, and 10; Mars Viking; the Soviet Vega mission to Comet Halley; the Soviet Phobos mission to Mars; and the Wide Field/Planetary Camera team for the Hubble Space Telescope.

Incredible pictures and illustrations.

Curious eBook as I can't make bookmarks. Very good pictures and many of the Earth/Mars picture pairs are very thought provoking. The book is divided into four sections; Earth, Fire, Air and Water. There are scattered groupings of explanatory text but it's more about what the pictures make you feel than enything. The pair at about location 66 of 183 I swear I can hear water rippling. Amazing pictures and easy to read text. Worth every penny!

Cleddie Keith, an Assemblies of God minister, has been consumed with a passion for revival since the days of the Charismatic and Jesus Movement in the '70s. While serving on a pastoral staff at Oak Lawn Church in Houston, God began a sweeping revival. At that time, 1,000 students from Jackson Junior High were swept into the kingdom of God. It was at this time that Cleddie began a life-long quest for revival. Today, as the senior pastor at his church, Cleddie hosts a weekly revival meeting every Friday night with numerous salvations and a packed meeting every time. Pastors and congregations within a 150-mile radius visit this service. Under his leadership the church has become a hub for revival in the Cincinnati area.

"Fast doubt"...right Cleddie?

Cleddie is a powerful and emotional speaker. His style is unique and capturing, and that is why he is dangerous. When listening to or reading his words, it's important to remember that emotional and capturing speech is not just used by God.

It comes as no surprise to me that Cleddie would seek to tackle such a simple subject as the lord's prayer to bilk money out of people. It fits with what I know about him. Simple subject, emotionally presented, take the money and run.

Don't waist your time with a book on the Lord's Prayer, if you want to know how to pray, look it up in your Bible and read it for yourself. You are smart enough to tell what's going on with out having to read a whole book about it. Even if you don't think you can grasp it, there are many free resources and sermons on the web that deal with the topic.

If you must buy this book, please buy it used. If he is not really in this for money, he won't mind.

Cleddie is a very annointed man of God. I was born-again and filled with the Holy Spirit, healed, deloivered and set free at Heritage Fellowship in 2003. The Friday night river services were life changing. This book and everything written by Pastor Cleddie Keith is annointed. I reccomend this book. I also reccomend "Praying the Ten Commandments" by Cleddie.
